SAD Demands Immediate Implementation of Women’s Reservation Bill, Equitable Delimitation
Ferozepur, August 8, 2026: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), at a meeting of its senior leaders in Chandigarh on Saturday, demanded the immediate implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill across the country.
The party said its demand was rooted in the teachings of the Sikh Gurus, who championed the dignity, equality and equal rights of women. It pointed out that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had already set an example by providing reservation for women in its House.
After detailed deliberations on key issues before Parliament, the SAD also demanded a fair and equitable delimitation exercise to ensure equal representation for all States.
The party supported the proposal put forward by the Government of India on the floor of the House for a uniform 50 per cent increase in the number of seats for all States. It said the increase would help address concerns arising from delimitation while ensuring that no State was unfairly disadvantaged.
The SAD emphasised that both women’s reservation and delimitation should be implemented immediately and in a manner that upholds the principles of equality, fairness and balanced representation.
