Damaged drone recovered near Ferozepur border

Ferozepur, October 24, 2025: The border district of Ferozepur has witnessed a disturbing surge in cross-border smuggling and narcotics-related incidents throughout 2025, highlighting an alarming trend of drone-based heroin drops and a parallel rise in local drug abuse cases.

The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on Thursday recovered a damaged drone from village Habib Wala near the Indo-Pak border. According to the report lodged by Inspector Kuldip Singh of 155 Battalion, BSF, posted at BOP Jagdish, the damaged drone was found lying in the fields. Following the report, a case has been registered against unidentified persons under Sections 10, 11, and 12 of the Aircraft Act, 1934, at Sadar Police Station, Ferozepur.

The year saw multiple major recoveries by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police, revealing Ferozepur’s growing vulnerability as a trafficking hotspot along the Indo-Pak border.

Added here, in October, 2025, 602 gm heroin was seized from Tendiwala village area suspected to be dropped by drone.  In August, hexacoplter drone carrying 6 kg heroin was recovered. from JK Singh Wala village.  In August, it was 10 kg narcotic  and a foreign made drone recovery with arrest of 4 persons including one found with 1.4 kg of heroin and a dual-remote drone.  In April 1 kg heroin was recovered from Tarn Taran part of Ferozepur sector. In February, 1 kg heroin was dropped by a drone from Pakistan in the Dona Rahmat Wala village area.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and enhanced drone surveillance and border patrolling have been initiated to check the growing menace.

Meanwhile, the district also faces a local drug crisis, with rising addiction and overdose cases. In October 2025, the village of Lakho Ke Behram reported multiple deaths due to drug overdoses, sparking widespread outrage. Villagers staged protests and blocked a highway, accusing the administration of failing to curb the rampant drug trade.
