Ferozepur Woman booked for misusing SC Category certificate to secure job

Ferozepur, August 19, 2025: A case of cheating and forgery has come to light in Ferozepur after a woman was booked for allegedly obtaining employment under the Scheduled Caste (SC) quota despite belonging to the Rajput Thakur community, which falls under the Backward Class category.

The accused, Rekha of Basti Tankan Wali, allegedly procured an SC certificate after marrying a man from the Scheduled Caste community and later secured employment as an ETT teacher under the SC category. The matter came to notice during scrutiny by the education authorities and subsequent police verification.

On the complaint of Kiranjeet Kaur, an FIR (No. 117 dated 19.08.2025) was registered at Police Station Kulgarhi under IPC sections 177, 181, 199, 419, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, and 474, relating to cheating, impersonation, forgery, and use of fraudulent documents.

As per the inquiry report, Rekha’s SC certificate No. 2389 dated May 8, 2022, was declared invalid, with authorities clarifying that Rajput Thakur caste is categorized as Backward Class, not Scheduled Caste. The report also recommended an in-depth probe into the role of officials who attested her application and issued the certificate.

Following the police inquiry report dated July 14, 2025, confirming prima facie offences of cheating and forgery, the case was formally registered. The investigation has been assigned to ASI Baljit Singh for further inquiry.
