Farmers to hold massive protest on March 6 in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, March 5, 2023: The farmers sitting on dharna and fast unto death in front of district administrative complex (DAC), will hold massive protest on March 6 in Ferozepur, under the banner of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dalewal, representing BKU Ekta Sidhpur.
The farmers are protesting since February 14, claiming their right to till their land in between fence and zero line near the Indo-Pak border which they had been tilling for the last so many decades, even by their ancestors. Now they have been banned the entry by imposing Section 145, across the fencing. Two groups of farmers are claiming their right over the land. Even one group has levelled charges on the other group of being involved in various criminal cases on recovery of drugs from the land near the fencing.
Gurmeet Singh Ghorechak, District President West, Kuljit Singh Skur District President East had earlier informed that farmer Dara Singh, farmer Fojan Singh farmer Bibi Jito has started the fast to death from February– that the fast unto death and they will not consume anything except water, till the government accept our demands and the protest would continue.
Dallewal said, the government had agreed that the farmers who had been tilling the land would not be withdrawn but now they had been denied of this right. Giving a warning to the government, he said, there will be a massive protest on March 6 at Ferozepur with an appeal to honour the commitment made on Nov 24, 2022 by allowing the farmers to continue to till their land. It is very unfortunate that there had been no response from the government over the farmers sitting on hunger strike. It would be better if the government work on accepting the demands and in case anything adverse happens , the government will be responsible for the same.
