Liquor Factory Row: High Court hearing adjourns for Dec 23 with fresh directions
Ferozepur/Zira, December 20, 2022: The High Court today adjourned the Malbros Liquor Factory case till Friday.
The district administration submitted its status report in the High Court today and the case is postponed for Friday- December 23. The High Court has ordered the farmers to end the dharna. The water samples may be collected after forming new Committee and fresh charter of demands by submitted by the farmers.
There was no compromise over lifting of dharna from the factory. In the meantime, the gate number 2 of the factory has been opened for entry of workers. However, the protests continued in front of gate number 1.
Today, the farmers in thousands of 32 farmer outfits under the banner of SKM – Sayunkt Kisan Morcha had gathered here at Zira Sanjha Morcha to join the protestors, after breaking all the police barricades, despite deployment of heavy police force to reach the site of protest against a distillery and ethanol plant in Mansurwal village and to decide the further course of action. It is alleged that residue of Malbros Liquor Factory are polluting the underground water and air as well.
Today, even, in one of the viral video today showing farmer-police on face-to-face mode, one farmer was seen using his stick to disperse the cops on duty, obstructing them to join the protest.
The protesters were seen saying that we will continue with our sit-in dharna till the closure of the factory and Zira has become second point agitation point after Delhi, when three anti-farmer bills were withdrawn after a year-long protest. However, the farmers were seen in high spirit to support the people of the Zira area in protest against the closure of the factory.
