‘Gangster’ branded on back, alleges prisoner in Punjab jail
Ferozepur, August 17, 2022: The jail authorities are once again in news and number of times the banned items like mobiles, drugs have been recovered which has exposed the security arrangements at the entry points. Now another case of a prisoner, Tarsem, has accused the jail authorities of branding the word ‘gangster, on his back, with hot iron rods when he was presented in the court of Kapurthala where he levelled the charges of writing gangster in Punjabi after he was sent for medical, by putting off his shirt.
DIG Ferozepur Ranger, Tejinder Singh Mod informed that it was a matter of a few days back and one of his companions had written on the back of the prisoner and no jail official had done this. There was a dispute among the two groups and they were separated in the barracks and managed to tarnish the image of jail officials.
He said, a similar case was also noticed in Barnala district where the under trial prisoner has accused the Jail Superintendent of torture and branding the word ‘aatankwadi’ or terrorist on his back.
Denying the charge made in the court at Kapurthala,, DIG said, the jail officials are responsible officials and as to why they should do like this. The prisoner had admitted his mistake and apologised. Taking it that he is turning towards reforming himself, not action was taken. He was however treated by sending him to the Civil Hospital, Ferozepur. But today he has made false allegations against the jail administration in Kapurthala.
As a precautionary measure, we have lodged a complaint with the SSP Ferozepur, who will take action against the prisoner, after getting the legal opinion in the matter. The same is under process. He, however, confirmed that the prisoner is not involved with any gangsters but he is involved in the criminal cases of loots etc.
