- Ferozepur, April 27, 2021: Keeping a close vigil over the brewing of ’lahan’ in the border villages, the excise and police in a joint raid recovered 9,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ and 18 ltrs of illicit liquor, on Tuesday, in the enclaves of the river Satluj on the surrounds of Chakar Ka Bedha in Ferozepur. It all reflects upon the department’s resolve to deal with illegal practice with an iron hand.The entire operation was carried out under the tutelage of J.S.Brar, Deputy Commissioner Excise by a team headed by EI Gurbaksh Singh.
In the joint raid today, 9,000 ltrs of ‘lahan’ was recovered and destroyed on the spot to avoid any tragedy on its misuse. In addition, 9 tarpaulins and 180 ltr of illicit liquor were taken into custody. The case was handed over to Narcotic Cell Ferozepur for further investigation and action, said excise official.
Divulging with details, the J.S.Brar, Deputy Commissioner Excise and Karambir Mahla, excise official said, there had been a massive recovery of ‘lahan’ in April, 2021 only 1,82,850 ltrs ‘lahan’ and 458 ltrs illicit liquor, 153 tarpaulins, 19 iron drums, 11 aluminum utensils and one working still, including today’s recovery.
