Ferozepur, November 7, 2023: The security of Central Jail has been compromised with the high-rising boundary walls at many places, from where racketeers are known to throw in tennis balls or packets stuffed with narcotics, mobile handsets, sim cards and batteries, and other contraband material for inmates. Four mobiles and other prohibited items have been found in the two packets lobbed inside the jail over the high walls of Central Jail in Ferozepur.
The recovery of mobiles – the most wanted item by the prisoners to remain in touch with the outer world and for illegal purposes – and other banned items continue to be recovered from the barracks and in possession of inmates despite tight security arrangements at the entry points having more than 200 security cops.
On November 6, 9 prisoners were booked under the Prisons Act on recovery of 10 mobiles from jail and now with the recovery of 4 more mobiles, the total recovery during the year 2023 has gone to 497. The jail campus surrounded by a thickly populated area on one side and open space on the back, is one of the reasons for the frequent throwing of packets containing mobiles and banned items.
On the second consecutive day, four mobiles, 33 ‘zarda’ sachets, and one cigarette packet were found in the two packets thrown from outside over the high walls.
A case has been registered against 12 prisoners and an unidentified person on recovery of one mobile 33 ‘zarda’ sachets and one cigarette pack on the opening of one packet thrown from outside and 3 mobiles from the second packet kept hide found during the search of the barrack.
