DC flags off awareness vans to sensitize farmers against stubble burning

Ferozepur, September 27, 2022: Starting a drive to educate the peasantry about harmful effects of stubble burning, Ferozepur Deputy Commissioner, Amrit Singh on Tuesday, flagged off three awareness vans that would visit various villages in the district and spread awareness against stubble burning.

Flagging off the vans from the district administrative complex, Amrit Singh, Deputy Commissioner said, during the next 13 days to educate the farmers about the ill effects of stubble burning and motivate them for proper management of crop residues by covering all the villages in the districts.

She said, the vans were fitted with audio messages that would disseminate information about the hazardous effects of burning paddy stubble. She said paddy stubble was useful for the farmers and should not be burnt at any cost. She added that crop residue could play an important role in enhancing soil fertility, if harvested in the fields with the help of modern equipment adding that specially prepared leaflets and posters by the Agriculture Department will also be distributed.

DC said, a comprehensive plan has been drawn up to curb the trend of stubble burning in the fields after the harvesting, under the awareness activities are being conducted in the villages of the district besides, the state-of-the-art machinery is also being provided at subsidy for proper management of straw. She also reiterated that instead of burning the stubble, farmers must use farm equipment to efficaciously   tackle stubble burning in the district, thereby making it pollution-free.

She said that straw is very useful for farmers which play an important role in increasing the fertility of the soil as the stubble burning is causing danger to the environment and this trend should be avoided.

Chief Agriculture Officer Tejpal Singh, Agriculture Officer Surinder Pal Singh and other officials of the department were also present on this occasion.
