Bank Employees in Ferozepur Rally for Implementation of 5-Day Work Week

Ferozepur, December 30, 2025:  Bank officers and employees in Ferozepur city staged a vigorous demonstration today as part of a nationwide agitation called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) to demand the long-pending implementation of a 5-day banking week

The protest was held at the Udham Singh Chowk branch of the State Bank of India, with participation from employees across various banks in the district.

Union leaders highlighted that the demand for a 5-day work week was agreed upon in the **11th and 12th bipartite wage settlements** but remains unimplemented despite over seven years of delays. They accused the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and the Department of Financial Services (DFS) of inaction, urging immediate steps to honor the commitment.

“Through this nationwide demonstration, bank employees are reminding the authorities to implement the demand without further delay,” a leader said, warning that failure to act would lead to intensified agitation across the country.

Senior leaders from state, zonal, and regional levels of various banks addressed the gathering.

A large number of district bank officers and employees attended, including Comrades Prem Sharma, Sukhpal Singh, Gurlal Singh, Rohit Dhawan, Jatinder Singh, Balli Badal, Manpreet Singh Jassal, Ashwani Sharma, Jagmohan Singh, Raminder Singh, Pardeep Kakkar, Sukhdeep Kaur, and Neeti Gupta.

Today’s action aligns with UFBU’s ongoing nationwide campaign, which includes protests in multiple cities and towns, pressing for the 5-day week amid growing workloads and the need for better work-life balance in the sector.
