Two Arrested in Jeweller Attack Case in Zira after Overnight Police Operation

Ferozepur/Zira, August 16, 2025: In a swift breakthrough, Ferozepur police solved within 24 hours the case of a gun attack on a jeweller –  in Zira. The accused were nabbed after a joint operation by the CIA Zira, AGTF, and City Police, following intelligence inputs.

According to police officials, the attackers—identified as Harjit Singh alias Jeetu, son of Kulwant Singh of Patti (Ward 12), and Sanmukh Singh alias Sunny, son of Sukhdev Singh of Patti village—were intercepted while riding a motorcycle used in the crime. When challenged, the duo opened fire on the police. In retaliatory fire, both sustained injuries; Jeetu was hit in the leg, while Sunny suffered a leg fracture after falling from the speeding motorcycle. Both were hospitalised under police custody.

Police recovered two weapons from their possession. A third accomplice has also been identified and will be arrested soon, officials said.

Investigations revealed that the accused had prior criminal records, including cases of robbery in Amritsar. During preliminary interrogation, Jeetu claimed he attempted the robbery due to financial distress and his wife’s illness, but police termed it no justification for such a violent act.

The incident occurred when the accused tried to loot a jeweller’s shop. On facing resistance, they panicked and opened fire with the intent to kill, before fleeing. Swift action by the police foiled their plans and ensured their arrest.

Police officials assured that the accused would face the strictest punishment under the law.
