SBS University staff for non-payment of wages since 8 months enters 4th day, students join in support
Ferozepur, February 22, 2024: The pen-down strike by staff members of Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University entered the 4th day today for non-payment of wages for 8 months, when students also joined them in support.
Holding a gate rally, the Joint Action Committee SBS State University Ferozepur members – Dr Kulbhushan Agnihotri, President ECTA, Gurpreet Singh President, SWA, Dr Rakesh Kumar, General Secretary ECTA, Satinder Kumar, General Secretary SWS said, the University is working without any Vice Chancellor for the last three months. We have several times requested to the Technical Education Minister and Principal Secretary for appointment of VC and for the release of Rs.30 cr, which was announced by the AAP government, against the release of only Rs.15 cr. The government has also stopped the annual increment of the staff.
Dr.Kulbhushan, President of ECTA said that double-income families can manage household affairs without the wages of one member but it is very difficult for a single earning hand to survive without wages for 8 months. To register our protest, we have extended the pen-down strike till February 23 and in case the wages/ grants are not released, we will extend it further. We have separately submitted the memorandum to DC and the same will also be given to the local MLA(Rural) Dahiya.
Mandeep Singh, BSC (EV) and Sukhwinder Singh studying in the first year of Elec. Engg said, we have joined the staff on strike in their support but it is very unfortunate that teachers who are said to be nation builders are without wages. We appeal to the government to at least release the wages regularly. Moreover, these are important days and the strike will affect our studies.
They also urged the government to immediately appoint a regular VC, release the pending wages with assurance for regular release every month and release the grant.
