Ferozepur, February 25, 2023:  The habit forming drugs has formed the broadest base in drug abuse and the Ferozepur police, in its campaign against the drug got success with the arrest of one person and recovered a huge quantity of habit-forming drugs.

Sources said, the easy availability at lower prices, immunity against law-enforcing agencies on the pretext of prescribed medicines, and prompt and higher effect with low doses were cited major factors for the growing demand. The number of victims of habit-forming drugs was much higher than addicts of other banned products, including opium, poppy, heroin etc.

Divulging with the details, Randhir Kumar, SP(Investigation) said, the Ferozepur police are working seriously against the drug smugglers and to put a complete check on the anti-social elements, special teams have been constituted under the gazetted officers (GOs), by SSP Kanwardeep Kaur.  In this context, he said, a tip-off was received by CIA Staff incharge Harpreet Singh on February 24, working under my tutelage along with DSP Fateh Singh Brar that one Juj Singh of Chak Ghubai urf Taran Wali under Mamdot police station is doing the business of selling habit forming drugs.  Working swiftly on this input, a raid was conducted on Jodhpur link road and Jaj Singh was nabbed with 50.025 habit forming tablets – Alprazolam tablets 24,525 and Tramadol tablets 25,500.

He said, earlier also, on February 1, the CIA team has nabbed another accused  Malkit Singh of village Tarpal Ke under Amir Khas police station of Fazilka with 10,000 habit-forming drugs.

SP said, the accused will be produced in the court to get remand for further investigation with special focus on the source of supplier and manufacturer besides raiding at the designated places to arrest other persons involved in this business.  He said the accused was caught red-handed after receiving a tip-off by special sources of the police.

Commending the work of the entire team, he said, though we have received vital information about the modus operandi of the suspects, we cannot disclose the same as it can affect further investigations, he added.

A case under NDPS Act has been registered at Mamdot police station and further investigations are on.
