Inmate, jail visitor booked for drug smuggling conspiracy
Ferozepur, March 3, 2022: Both, a person who has come to deposit the clothes for the jail inmate have been booked for drug-smuggling conspiracy, under Section 42 of the Prisons Act (Penalty for introduction or removal of prohibited articles into or from prison and communication with prisoners).
A case has been registered on the complaint of Beant Singh, Assistant Superintendent against gangster prisoner Harpreet Singh, who is already lodged in the jail facing 7 years imprisonment under Sections 307 (offense of attempt to murder), 397 (Robbery, or dacoity), with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 148 (Rioting, armed with a deadly weapon) of IPC and Ramandeep Singh who had come to deposit his clothes.
Under the Covid protocol when the clothes of Harpreet Singh were checked at ‘deori’ on March 2, a white colour powder weighing 3.50 gm, suspected to be an intoxicant substance, was found hiding in the stitched corners of the blanket. Further investigations are on with Balbir Singh, IO.
