Sakhi One Stop Centre proves boon for distress women with 92 percent success rate

Ferozepur, July 26, 2021:  The Sakhi One Stop Centre-SOSC set up by the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development in the campus of the local Civil Hospital was visited by CJM Ms Ekta Uppal, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).

In another step toward stopping harassment of women and providing better disposal of their complaints at Sakhi – one stop centre for all assistance to women. Punjab government has set up ‘One Stop Sakhi Centres’ (OSCs) in all the districts of the state to provide integrated support and assistance to women affected by violence. Unique initiative of Social Security, Women and Child Development department, these 22 OSCs have been successfully running with dedicated staff and providing required support to the needy.

During her visit, CJM also checked the Shelter Room, Counseling Room, Legal Aid Clinic and also listened to the parties facing domestic violence problems.  She also visited the Civil Hospital and advised the general public to wear masks and go in for Covid vaccine besides following all the Covid related instructions.

On this occasion, Ritu Palta, Centre Administrator and Manjinder Kaur Legal Advisor were also present.

At the Sakhi centre, women are counselled, given medical attention, if needed, and information about government schemes like widow pension, etc. said Ritu Palta.

The SOCS as established on October 29, 2018, has proved a boon for women in distress as it has provided a healing touch to 92 percent victims of domestic violence, physical and mental harassment so far in the district.   In all, out of 914 cases, 849 were settled, while 60 are in ADR(Court) and only five cases are pending for settlement, said Ritu Palta.
