33 trains cancelled as farmers block railway tracks near Punjab’s Shambhu border
Ferozepur, April 20, 2024: The farmers continued their protest near Punjab’s Shambu border demanding the release of three activists who were arrested during the ongoing protest and have refused to vacate the railway track till they are released. As a result, the railway has to cancel 33 trains, short-terminate 4 trains, short-originate 3 trains, and divert 56 trains.
In all, 96 trains were affected, causing a lot of inconvenience to the passengers, who had planned their journeys, for some personal, social and official tours.
Farmers have been protesting at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders, since February 13 under the banner of the KMM and the SKM (non-political). They have been demanding a law to fix a minimum support price (MSP) for their crops and concessions, including the waiving of farm loans.
