Renowned academician and researcher Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu assumes charge as VC of SBS State University, Ferozepur
Ferozepur, April 28, 2021: Renowned academician and researcher Prof. (Dr.) Buta Singh Sidhu assumed charge as founder Vice Chancellor of Shaheedd Bhagat Singh State University (SBSSU) , Ferozepur on Wednesday. Prof. Sidhu is presently vice chancellor of Mahraja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda.
After paying obeisance at historic Gurdwara Zamani Sahib at Wazidpur, Prof. Sidhu took charge as vice chancellor in the presence of senior faculty and staff of SBSSU today.
It is worthwhile to mention here that Punjab Government has recently upgraded Shaheed Bhagat Singh State Technical Campus, Ferozepur as Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur and also approved Rs.45 crore to the institute for the next three years.
After taking charge, while listing his priorities, Prof. Sidhu vowed to develop the SBSSU named after great martyr Bhagat Singh as an Institution of excellence with focus on academics and research.
He said that the upgradation of the engineering college as State University would enable the institute to start multidisciplinary courses with its existing infrastructure.
He also promised to make the university self- reliant by introducing latest need based and skill development courses, besides starting a course on the life and philosophy of Bhagat Singh, to progate the ideals of Shahid-E-Azam Bhagat Singh.
He hoped the university will play a major role in the development of technical education in the border areas of the state.
Seeking cooperation from faculty and staff for betterment of the university, Prof. Sidhu assured solving genuine problems of employees at the earliest and ensuring disbursement of salaries on time.
Dr. Sidhu is known for working with a sense of deep commitment, utmost dedication, honesty and sincerity, which is all set to play a vital role in the progress of the newly upgraded University.
Senior faculty and Deans of the University congratulated Dr. Sidhu on his joining and gave him a warm welcome for the new assignment.
Prominent among those who attended the ceremony include SBSSU, Director, Dr. T. S. Sidhu, Registrar, J. K. Aggarwal, Prof. A. K. Tiyagi, Prof. Lalit Sharma, Deans and Directors among others.
Brief on Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu
With more than 28 years teaching, research and administrative experience in technical Institutions/ Universities, including IKGPTU, Jalandhar, MRSPTU, Bathinda and Director, Yadwindra College of Engineering, Punjabi University, Prof. Buta Singh did his PhD in Engineering from prestigious IIT, Roorkee. During his various tenures, he emerged as a good administrator and gave new dimensions in the field of academics. He aggressively worked toward the upgradation of technical education.
On the research front, Dr. Sidhu has submitted more than 170 research papers in the area of economic energy generation and development of surface coatings for high temperature materials. Dr. Sidhu as a researcher has filed four patents from his research work and written books, besides winning National and International Awards for numerous achievements.
He had also played a crucial role in collaboration of IKG-PTU and MRSPTU with international universities, including University of California; Santa Cruz Campus, USA; Pennsylvania State University; San Jose’s State University; University of the Fraser Valley, Canada; Brock University, Canada; McGill University, Canada, the University of Toronto and Thompson Rivers University of Canada.
About the Institute :
The institute was established by the Government of Punjab in 1995 with the name Shaheed Bhagat Singh College of Engineering & Technology as a tribute to the great martyr Shaheed Bhagat Singh. In the academic year 2011-12, it was upgraded to the status of a technical campus and rechristened as Shaheed Bhagat Singh State Technical Campus, Ferozepur.
The Technical Campus, with its lush green state-of-the-art campus spread over 98 acres is situated on Ferozepur-Moga Road, about four Kilometers away from the Ferozepur city. The city, Ferozepur is situated on the Indo Pakistan International border. It is well connected by road and rail with important cities like Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Delhi and rest of the country.
