SIT update on Women Trafficking to Oman:  In 22 FIRs, 11 women among 14 nabbed, Look-Out Circular for 7 persons

Ferozepur, July 5, 2023: The Special Investigating Team (SIT) in Women Trafficking to Oman case, has issued Look-Out Circular for seven accused, said Randhir Kumar, SP Ferozepur heading the SIT.

Divulging with the update in the case, SP Randhir Kumar said, “In all 22 FIRs – one at Bathinda, 5 at Ferozepur, one at SBS Nagar, 4 at Hoshiarpur, 2 at Ludhiana Rural, one at Moa, 6 at Jalandhar Rural and 2 at Tarn Taran.   In all, 14 accused including 11 women and 3 men – one at Bathinda, 5 at Ferozepur, one at SBS Nagar, 4 at Hoshiarpur, 2 at Ludhiana Rural, one at Moga, 6 at Jalandhar Rural and 2 at Tarn Taran – have been arrested so far”.

Earlier, SP had apprised the Chief Minister Punjab on Tuesday in this case regarding illegal trafficking of women to Oman/Muscat, in the presence of DGP.  He said the Chief Minister had directed for more arrests and Look-Out Circular for the accused outside India or trying to go out of India.

Talking about modus operandi, he said, the agents had promised a work visa but were sending on a tourist visa.  At the same time, promising Dubai but sending Oman with a paying job with good working conditions but reality is low wages/no wages and bad working conditions.  The accused had been targeting economically weaker section women with promise of jobs, for long working hours and tiring domestic work in Oman.

Unscrupulous travel agents first open fake companies in Middle Eastern countries to pretend that they work there. The local women or men who are already there act as middlemen and look out for young women or their relatives who are poor and in dire need of money in India.  They paint a rosy picture of the kind of money that they can make by just spending a couple of years.  In most cases, the women are taken on a tourist visa as the agents’ claim that these will be extended for two years. Once they sign the agreement in good faith, they are bound to work for two years and apart from domestic work, they are forced to indulge into illegal work.
