SBS Tech University 24×7 indefinite hunger strike enters 7th day

Ferozepur, May 30, 2021:  The employees of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Technical University – earlier SBS State Tech Campus –  have started protest by sitting on 24x7indefinite hunger strike since May 24, which entered 7th day today, under the banner of Joint Action Committee (JAC).

Last night, Veer Singh, Rampal, Heera Lal, Prof Sukhjinder, Prof  Munish, Satpal, Manjit Singh Bajwa, J S Mangat were on hunger strike.

It is pertinent to mention here that earlier the staff had sat on dharna during the month of December when with the intervention of local MLA Pinki, two months wages were released and dharna was lifted with assurance that the grant to the institution will be arranged.

A few days back, the children of faculty members had also sent a blood written letter to the Chief Minister, which has now gone viral on social media, seeking immediate release of the salaries of the faculty.  Finding no response, the staff has proceeded on hunger strike.

The protesters said, it is very unfortunate that employees are being deprived of their monthly wages.  At the start of the financial year, there must be provisions in the budget for at last for wages throughout the year.  One can well imagine the plight of a family having a single earning hand.  The government must serious think it over and release the grant immediately.
