SAD (Fateh) to field candidate from Ferozepur, BJP tense over ‘Face Identity’

Ferozepur, May 8, 2024:  When the major political party – Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – is yet to announce its candidate for Lok Sabha elections from Ferozepur, another candidate Jaskaran Singh Kahan Singh Wala under the banner of Shiromani Akali Dal (Fateh) has come forward to contest from Ferozepur constituency.

BJP looks tense over the ‘face identity’ crisis as it has not announced its candidates’ names for 4 seats. The political arena will start to crack only with the announcement of the BJP candidate, the voters will begin making their minds in whose favour they will cast their vote. The inordinate delay in the announcement of candidates by the major political parties, clearly speaks of indecisiveness on the part of senior leaders, as when the nominations have started, the time left for campaigning in 9 assembly constituencies in Ferozepur Lok Sabha constituencies is left to numbered days.

Among the major political parties, the AAP candidate is Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar, MLA from Muktsar, Congress candidate is Sher Singh Ghubaya who was MP in 2014 with 47.11 per cent votes (4,50,00) but lost in 2019, by getting 4,34,577 votes (37.08 per cent)  from Sukhbir Singh Badal by 1,98,550 votes difference. , SAD(B) is Nardev Singh Bobby Mann and BJP is yet to decide on its candidate.  However, BSP has also announced its candidate and in addition, Fouji Angrez Singh – a loyalist of AAP, on denying the ticket, has filed his nomination as an Independent candidate. Congress has played the card of the Rai Sikh community by fielding Sher Singh Ghubaya, who started his career as SAD MLA from Jalalabad in 1997 and after Zora Singh Mann’s death; he won in 2009 and 2014.  But for the third time, he lost in 2019 from a Congress ticket.

Holding a press conference today at Press Club Ferozepur, Jaskaran Singh said, While I will contest from Ferozepur as a common man and will sit with the common people for their rights, we will also field the candidates at the remaining constituencies barring Khadoor Sahib, in favour of  Bhai Amritpal Singh who has planned to contest the elections from jail.

He appealed to the people to support him and assured to give priority to all incomplete work of the constituency.

Talking about the youth’s problem of unemployment who are flying abroad, he said that if the international border is opened for business purposes like that of Attari in Amritsar, it will generate employment for the youths which raise their voice in the Parliament besides fighting for the farmers on priority.
