Qaidian Nu Shaunk Mobila Da”: Alert jail staff recover 7 mobiles among other gadgets from Ferozepur jail

Ferozepur, October 29, 2023:  “Qadian Nu Shaunk Mobila Da” – With the recovery of 7 mobiles from inside the jail from the two packets thrown over the high walls and lying unclaimed, it is clear that the prisoners have a fascination for the mobiles.  The total tally of recovery of mobiles besides other banned items, has gone to 477 mobiles during the current year.

No doubt, the alert jail staff swiftly takes action to trace the mobiles by making surprise checks but at the same time, it is very strange that the sources of inputs about the availability of mobiles inside the jail are all the time after the entry of the banned items.  The recovery of mobiles and other banned items, from the jail premises revealed the weak security arrangements at the entry point and outside the jail walls.

The purpose of keeping the criminals, behind bars and away from the outer world, as punishment is lost with the regular recovery of mobiles.  After registration of the case, investigation in such recovery cases is also difficult as taking the prisoner for inquiry out of the jail is not free from security, especially when sufficient staff is not available to guard them.  Thus, the matter ends with the registration of cases in such recoveries.

As per the information, two packets were thrown from outside the jail on October 27 morning, and on opening two touchscreen mobiles without SIM cards, four white-colored mobile chargers, and two white color headphones, were found.   Similarly, during the surprise checking on the basis of inputs, by Nirmaljit Singh, Assistant Superintendent, three touch screen mobiles were found hidden in the bathroom.

The recovery has exposed that prisoners in the Ferozepur jail have been indulging in communication with the outside world using mobile phones, including smartphones. In addition to that, they have been utilizing wireless earpods to stay connected beyond the confines of their prison cells.

In both incidents, cases have been registered under Section 52-A of the Prisons Act, with the appointment of Gurmail Singh, as IO, and further investigations are on.
