Mobiles reach inside jail through 'Air Route'

Ferozepur: 8 mobiles found from inside jail

Ferozepur, June 30, 2021:  During the search operation on Monday, as many as 8 mobiles have been found from inside the jail from inmate and thrown from over the high walls from outside.This is not the first time, there had been a number of instances when banned items had been found during the search operations from the jail inmates or thrown from over the walls, posing a security threat.  During the last year, more than 1,500 mobiles reported to have been seized from various jails in the State due to enhanced security measures but the incidents continue reportedly due to several buildings and roads being built in the proximity of the prisons. The mushrooming of high rising buildings along the jail walls had become a security threat which was due to the sale of part of its land under the OUVGL scheme.  The only preventive step can be installation of CCTV cameras along with the boundary wall and jammers for which a proposal is already under consideration of the government.As per the information, a case against one inmate identified as Harbhajan Singh of Majitha (Amritsar) lodged in Ferozepur jail and one unidentified persons, for thrown from outside has been registered under section 52-A of Prisons Act on the complaint of Sukhwant Singh, Assistant Superintendent, Central Jail.On Monday, Sukhwant Singh, Asstt. Upon getting a tip-off, Harbhajan Singh inmate was searched and one mobile phone Samsung key pad black colour with battery and SIM card was recovered from his possession.On the same day, two mobiles of Red company touch screen  without SIM card, were found on the backside of the jail hospital in the garden thrown by an unidentified person wrapped in white colour diaper of children.  From the same place, another package wrapped in black tape was found thrown and on opening five mobiles of Samsung key pad were recovered.  Baldev Singh has been appointed as IO and further investigations are on.
