Unabated Smuggling into Ferozepur Jail; 10 mobiles, banned items seized during search operations

Ferozepur, January 18, 2025: During a search operation conducted on January 8 at Ferozepur Central Jail, authorities recovered 10 mobile phones, 4 suspected intoxicated capsules, 289 sachets of ‘zarda,’ 36 bundles of ‘bidis,’ and 217 grams of a white substance believed to be contraband. Unidentified individuals reportedly threw These items over the high walls of the jail.

A case has been registered against the unknown perpetrators under Sections 42 and 52-A of the Prisons Act, with further investigations underway, led by Investigating Officer Sarwan Singh.

This is not an isolated incident; a previous search uncovered 17 unclaimed mobile phones. Despite a three-layered security system, the smuggling of narcotics and mobile phones into the prison continues unabated, posing significant challenges to prison administration.

In 2024 alone, 510 mobile phones were confiscated from the jail, underscoring the urgent need for stricter measures. Experts suggest tightening security at entry points, imposing visitation and parole restrictions on inmates found with contraband, and increasing monitoring and inspection frequency to curb the flow of illegal items.
