YEAR ENDER – Ferozepur Police’s 2024 anti-drug drive yields major arrests, seizures
Ferozepur, December 30, 2024: In an ambitious drive to make Ferozepur a drug-free district, the local police achieved significant breakthroughs in their campaign against drug peddlers, smugglers, and other criminal elements in 2024. The year-long operation has led to numerous arrests and recoveries, showcasing a resolute commitment to tackling the menace of drugs and illegal activities.
Under the NDPS Act, the police registered 244 cases, arrest 317 individuals. The massive haul included 63.565 kg of heroin, 214.840 kg of poppy husk, 12.826 kg of opium, 200 grams of ice drug, 1.400 kg of ganja, 14,700 tablets, 76 grams of intoxicant powder, and Rs. 1.11 crore in drug money. The seizures also included 9 pistols, 2 rifles, 6 magazines, and 40 live cartridges, highlighting the nexus between drugs and illegal firearms.
In addition, the police acted decisively under the Arms Act, registering 34 cases and apprehending 61 individuals. Recoveries included 2 revolvers, 79 pistols, 2 guns, an AK-47 rifle, 45 magazines, and 245 cartridges, significantly disrupting the circulation of illegal weapons.
The campaign also targeted illicit liquor production and smuggling. Under the Excise Act, 173 cases were registered, leading to the arrest of 205 individuals. The recoveries included 4,584.520 liters of illicit liquor, 8,351.950 liters of liquor, 8,180 liters of beer, 1,27,127 liters of lahan, and 8 working stills, effectively dismantling several illegal operations.
