Ferozepur, November 14, 2024: In a significant arms recovery, police seized 11 pistols and 7 magazines from a black bag abandoned by two motorcycle-borne suspects during a checkpoint operation in Talwandi Bhai on the Ferozepur-Ludhiana highway. The firearms, identified as .32-bore pistols, were discovered after police signalled the suspects to stop; however, they fled the scene, leaving behind their motorcycle and bag.
Ferozepur district has seen a troubling rise in the supply of high-quality illegal firearms, surpassing even the licensed arms in circulation. The police’s inability to apprehend the suspects raises further concerns about the spread of unauthorized arms in the region.
The district has seen an influx of illegal weapons despite restrictions on firearm licenses for civilians. Assistant Sub-Inspector Sudesh Kumar reported that during a routine checkpoint at Talwandi Bhai’s main intersection, police attempted to halt the suspects, who instead fled, abandoning their belongings. This case is now registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Talwandi Bhai police station, and investigations are on-going to identify the unknown suspects.
