Union members demand review of GoG scheme

Ferozepur, September 13, 2022:  On Monday, the 125th Saragarhi Day celebrations were interrupted by Guardians of Governance (GoG), to protest against the scrapping of GoG Scheme.

The AAP government has scrapped the flagship scheme of the Congress government rendering 4,300 ex-servicemen jobless who were being paid a monthly stipend of Rs.11,000 to every jawan, Rs.13,000 to supervisor nd R.25,000 to tehsil level incharge, and Rs 50,000 for the district heads.costing around Rs.72 crore per annum financial burden.  The scheme was among the first few decisions and initiatives taken by the Congress Government after it came to power in 2017.

Under the scheme, the government intended to set up a monitoring mechanism by engaging the ex-servicemen to ensure efficient and effective implementation of government schemes at the grass root level. However, the State Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, on Friday decided to “scrap” the flagship scheme because of its “unsatisfactory performance of previous years in monitoring the assigned schemes of few Departments”.

GoG union members – Col Amarjit Singh (Retd.), Capt Jagir Singh (Retd.), Capt valbir Sigh (Retd.) – demanded that the state government must review the scrapping of the GoG scheme and their services should be reinstated.
