With advanced technology and available infrastructure, PwD electors have no challenge in elections

Ferozepur, April 6, 2024:  The awareness programme is a part of the SVEEP – Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation – campaign and in this context; a camp was organized in Blind Home, to create awareness among the visually impaired persons, to also cast their vote. The event aimed to educate inmates and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) voters about the electoral process for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

Now, with the advanced technology and available infrastructure, it is not a challenge for the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) electors, especially the visually impaired persons.

Among the total voters in the Lok Sabha 9 constituencies as 1486031 and 4772 service voters, there are 9160 PwDs voters and among this, 3148 PwDs (Persons with Disabilities) including visually impaired persons are in Ferozepur, 3122 in Fazilka and 270 in Muktsar.

Avtar Singh Supervisor, Blind Home along with Dr Satinder Singh, SVEEP Coordinator, shared the importance of casting votes during the elections, to strengthen the democracy and also to elect the candidate of their choice transparently, without any fear and greed.  Every single vote has great importance and can become a deciding factor also.

Avtar Singh said, presently we have 27 visually impaired persons in Blind Home and we will ensure their right to the franchise by taking them to the nearest polling stations.

Speaking on the occasion, Sukhchain – a visually impaired inmate – said, we will cast our vote and  we will also appeal to the general public visiting the institution to cast their vote on June 1 during the Lok Sabha elections.
