Purpose to separate criminal from society lost, mobiles recovered from jail after clash among inmates

Ferozepur, May 28, 2020:  Recovery of mobiles – the most wanted facility sought inside jail – from inmates is unabated. While one mobile has been recovered during the search operation in jail, in another case mobile was recovered after a clash among two groups of jail inmates along with a sharp edged substance like a knife.

In the past there had been frequent recoveries of mobiles, drugs, bidis and other objection substances from inside the jail during the routine search operations or getting a tip-off from informer sources.

The present incident of clash looks to be over the mobile as it is most wanted facility by the inmates to keep themselves in touch with their families, criminals, business partners or to have a good time pass.  But with the frequent recovery of mobiles from inside the jail has put a question mark on the security chinks at the entry points and the connivance of jail officials cannot be ruled out, with the arrest of Pharmacist posted in the jail hospital and two PESCO employees – a security agency which provides the ex-servicemen as out sourcing arrangements. With this scenario inside the jail, the purpose of punishment to the accused to keep them away from social contacts and worldly affairs is lost.

In the past, there are number of recovery of mobiles from inside the jail and cases of calling from inside jail to VIPs, viral of inside video and messages on social media. It looks the criminals are in constant touch with people out of the high boundary walls.

Seven under trial prisoners – Rajbir Singh, Dilbagh Singh, Simrandeep Singh, Arshdeep Singh, Harpreet Singh, Rajan Bhandari and Sonu –  have been booked in the clash in front of Block number one, while one prisoner and recovery of one mobile and sharp edged knife like substance – Mahavir Singh has been booked for recovery of one mobile of Samsung brand black colour with batter and SIM Card.

Two different cases have been registered under the relevant sections and Prisons Act 1894 on the complaint of jail authorities, with appointment of Jagdip Singh as Inquiry Officer.

Giving the details, he said, as per complaint, there was a clash over some issue between the two groups of jail inmates when they started attaching each other with bricks.  Meanwhile, the jail guards and Pesco officials reached on the spot and calm down.  However, later one mobile and sharp-edged knife like material was recovered from Rajbir Singh, under trial prisoner.
