Ferozepur, August 30, 2017:  All the journalists – members of Press Club, Ferozepur today organized a road march up to District Administrative Complex to protest the violence against journalist’s fraternity in Panchkula on August 25 after the announcement of judgement by the CBI court in the rape case against Dera Sirsa chief and booking of Sat Pal Thind, working as district incharge of Sachh Kaun in a false case, under political influence.

The club members later submitted two memorandums to Deputy Commissioner Ramvir to take action against the concerned SHO for booking Sat Pal Thind in a false case and in the name of Governor Punjab condemning violence against journalist’s fraternity in Panchkula on August 25.

In the memorandums, the freedom of press has been demanded, which is known as the 4th pillar of democracy besides stopping the attacks on the press.

Speaking on the occasion, Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, President Press Club said, the cases against the anti-social elements should be registered for getting justice to the journalists.

Satpal Thind District Incharge, Sachh Kaun said, a false case under Section 107/751 was  registered against me and I was lifted from my home by the Amir Khas police station SHO forcibly and produced before SDM Jalalabad.  From there, I was sent to Fazilka jail and later on released on bail on the next day.

After submitting the memorandums to Deputy Commissioner, he said, certain actions have been taken as a preventive measure to maintain law and order and communal harmony during the curfew period.

Preventive arrests are made only when peace is in imminent danger. The object of Sections 107 and 151 is preventive justice and not punitive.

He, however, asked the President Press Club to submit a detailed representation to get the matter enquired from a senior officer.
