Malbros Liquor Factory Row: PPCB declines operation of unit at Zira, farmer outfits demands to announce its permanent closure

Ferozepur, July 8, 2023:  The farmer’s outfits under the banner of Sanjha Morcha in its meeting held today at Zira, have decided not to allow the operation of the factory and condemned the one-sided orders of the PPCB without taking on record the failure of 29 samples and invited the Chief Minister on July 24 to announce the closure of the factory permanently at Zira as already promised.

The Environmental Engineer (ZB), PCPB has forwarded a copy of the speaking order  passed by the Chairman on July 4 for information and necessary action.

The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) while disposing of the application for consent to operate Malbros International Pvt Ltd at Mansoorwal (Zira) has declined the consent for operation of the factory as the observations of the PPCB in reference to the compliance report of the industry are sufficient to take this decision.

The farmer leader said, the PPCB board while declining the operation has not taken the plea on the point of failure of samples as the CPCB team in its report submitted to NGT had also found that none of the 29 samples taken by its team from the area in and around the factory were potable.  Even TDS, Boron and sulphate were found in high concentration beyond acceptable limits.

They said, it was July 24 of last year and it is going to be one year, the official orders for closure of the factory have not been issued.   We have the support of all farmers and will not allow its operation if we have to sit for another one year.

Inviting the Chief Minister for a meeting on July 24, they said, we will again assemble on July 24 on completion of one year of agitation, to register a protest to officially announce the closure of the operation of the factory as promised earlier.
