Home for the Blind was established in 1954 by Dr.Sadhu Chand Vinayak, MBBS. One time there used to be more than 100 blind in the institution. Various dignitaries like Indira Gandhi, Gyani Zail Singh, High Court and District Judges, Army officers, Deputy Commissioners, NGOs, and locals, have visited from time to time.

Presently, there are 42 inmates, out of which 35 are school and college going pursuing Plus, BA and Post Graduation. All are provided free lodging and boarding, education, medical facility etc.

We have accommodated the inmates two or three in one room and provide them all necessary items for daily use from time to time.

The institution is being run with volunteer donations from the monthly, yearly and donors on family rituals – both in cash or kind or by booking the food for the particular day. However, we do get some donations of around Rs.20,000 per month from the district administration through Red Cross Society.

We are running the institution comfortable but not as per the requirement to modernize it with more facilities like modern musical instruments, training of computer and skill development courses, which need huge financial assistance.

Let us also share, in the recent past, around 25 inmates have joined the government job in various departments of Punjab government, mostly in government schools as Music Teacher and getting a handsome salary.

Number of donors visit the institution for donation in cash or kind and sometime donate items like clothes, eatables to the inmates.

We appeal to the people to visit this institution once, interact with the inmates to make them feel that they are part of society. They can also enlist themselves as a writer during their exams to accompany them.

We, however, appeal to all to donate generously for the development of the institution and inmates as well.
