Ferozepur, April 15, 2023: The Ferozepur police claimed to have cracked the snatching and loot gang with the arrest of its six members including one junk dealer – ‘kabaria’, who were active in Ferozepur as in the recent past, there had been theft in five locked houses on a single day in one colony.

Divulging with details, Bhupinder Singh, SSP said, a team of senior officers under the tutelage of Randhir Kumar, SP (Investigation) along with Surinder Pal Bnsal, DSP City, Mohit Dhawan SHO City and Harnek Singh was constituted when a tip-off a gang of loot and snatching is active in the city.

He said, working swiftly on the in-puts, a raid was conducted at the designated place and the accused identified as Kallu, Sagar, oil of Basti Aawa, Suraj alias Jona of Bedi Colony and Anil near officers colony were nabbed from the bridge of ‘sukad pul’ with recovery of 2 stolen motorcycles, 4 kape, one baseball. Further during the preliminary investigation, more recoveries of 10 stolen motorcycles, 6 stolen batteries, 25 kg brass taps, which were stolen from one colony from the closed houses. Raj Kumar, another accused who is working as ‘’kabaria” was arrested to whom the stolen goods were being sold. In another case, Aman of Satiyewala was arrested with recovery of one motorcycle and during investigation 19 more stolen motorcycles were recovered. However, another accused Sagar of Khalchian Jadid is also being booked along with Aman.

Except Anil Kumar, the other four accused have a criminal back history under various sections including NDPS, Railway Act and wanted in the cases registered at Ferozepur City, Maknu, Muktsar, Rampura (Bathinda) and Kulgarhi.

SSP further disclosed that during a period of one month apart from today’s, there had been recovery of two illegal pistols with magazines, three live cartridges under Arms Act, four mobiles snatched, 2 kg 665 gm heroin, 1 kg opium, 3400 habit forming capsules, drug money Rs.62,000 under NDPS Act, 933.7 ltr illicit liquor, 3155 kg ‘lahan, 5 working stills under Excise Act, 2 pistols under Arms Act, recovery of Rs.1.02 lacs under Gambling Act, confiscated 8 vehicles under Mining Act and 39 stolen vehicles. During this period, 11 Proclaimed Offenders (POs) wanted in various cases were also arrested.

He said, all the accused will be produced before the court to get a remand for further in-depth investigation and on disclosure of more loot and snatching incidents, strict action under the laws will be initiated.

Giving a message to the anti-social elements and gang members active in the district, SSP said, the police had been actively working on every front to maintain law and order in the district. Exemplary punishment will be handed out to these criminals so that it serves as a lesson to similar minded characters involved in illegal works, he added.
