Ferozepur, June 13, 2020:  The Punjab Police in association with the Excise Department officials continued its drive, against the illegal business of illicit liquor going on in the state, putting a huge loss of the government exchequer.

 

The police claimed to have arrested five accused in nine raids while in some cases, the accused managed to escape on seeing the police and excise officials, with recovery of 250 ltr ‘lahan’ and 306 bottles of illicit liquor.

 

The raids were conducted a joint Cordon and Search Operations – CASO – in Ferozepur district, at various places, jointly by CIA and Excise teams, comprising of 50 personnel, where illicit liquor trade was reported, to create an enhanced impact on bottleggers.  CASO is considered as is one of the basic counter insurgency operations.

 

The consumption of illicit liquor, especially in rural belt, is wreaking havoc in society and its production continues unabated especially in the border villages. Police officials also claimed that they had nabbed a number of persons involved in illegal production and sale of liquor but the fact is that it is still going on as evident from the repeated seizures and arrest of bottleggers.

 

In the past trend of seizure of huge catchy of illicit liquor and ‘lahan’, under ‘Operation Red Rose’,  has baffled the police department.

 

The raids were conducted at the suspected places of extracting illicit liquor, on the basis of tip-off, under the tutelage of SSP Bhupinder Singh by the various teams led by Gurinderbir Singh, DSP (D) in the areas under police stations of   Kulgarhi, Makhu,  Guruharsahai, Mamdot, Ferozepur Sadar and Mallwanala.

 

All the accused – Gurdev Singh of Kulgarhi, Jaswinder Singh of Mamdot, Rulia Singh, Raju Singh and Itta Singh of Ferozepur, Bachan Singh of Guruharsahai – and booked under Sections 61/1/14 of Excise Act and further investigations are on.
