Ferozepur border dwellers to become BSF’s eyes; getting training to observe drone activities

Ferozepur, June 29, 2022:  Drone activities from Pakistan have become a real cause of concern in border areas as many drone droppings have been reported. Apart from BSF’s manual vigilance and technological surveillance, people have now become the third eye on the border on Pakistan-backed drone activities.

To put a check on the smuggling of contraband from across the border from Pakistan, with new technology using the drones and Border Security Force (BSF) known as first defense line of India, has sought cooperation from the border villagers in shooting down Pakistani drone and informer would be given a reward of Rs.1 lakh.

The recovery of a consignment of arms and ammunition dropped by Pakistan in Ferozepur belt in the past has necessitated giving training given to the border dwellers regarding drone activities in their respective areas. After repeated infiltration by Pakistan drones in different areas and recovery of heroin, the Ferozepur-based BSF has started giving training to civilians living near the border to sound a timely alert about drone activities.

The people have become a force multiplier for the BSF by keeping a hawk’s eye on the drone activities from Pakistan. The BSF has trained people by conducting drone awareness programmes (DAPs) on various aspects of drone activities along the Indo-Pak border.

Om Parkash, 116 Bn Commanding Officer, on Tuesday had a meeting with the border villagers, at Shameke village BOP, to put them wiser about the movement and activities of drone along the border.  He appealed to them to immediately inform the BSF officials on the given numbers, the moment the drone sound is heard or spotted in the sky during the night.  He also said the informer would be given a reward of Rs.1 lakh. Those who give information about drones spotted along the border, will now get a reward of Rs 1 lakh, he added.

He said, the idea behind training border residents about drone techniques is to make them aware so that whenever they see any such activity in their area, they can easily identify the flying object and the same can further be brought to the notice of the security forces.
