‘Cycle to Work’ concept gets momentum

Ludhiana Paddlers get warm welcome at Ferozepur

Ferozepur, January 27, 2016: In all, 32 members of Paddlers Club, Ludhiana were given a warm welcome by the members of Paddlers Club, Ferozepur at Home for the Blinds.

They had all the way come from Ludhiana to Harike in a bus and truck load of their cycle’s up to Harike and  paddled from Harike Pattan to Hussainiwala.

Their aim is to pay tributes to the martyrs on the 67th Republic Day, enhance a feeling of peace and harmony and to promote cycling for giving pollution free environment.

At Hari Ke, they enjoyed bird sanctuary when the migratory birds welcomed them, this being the peak season for birds to flock to place of safety.

All the paddlers from Ludhiana representing varied professional backgrounds – industrialists, teaches, IT, hospitality industry – were presented with ‘Basanti Colour Siropas’ while welcoming them at Home for the Blinds by the Ferozepur Paddlers Club members – Sohan Singh Sodhi, Anirudh Gupta, Vipan Sharma, Satish Machharal, A.S.Bhogal, Ashwani Sharma, Ashok Behal, Manjit Singh, Harjit Singh and others.

In return, Crazy for Cycling –the specialized Bicycle Store presented a token gift of new year calendars and a ‘pithoo bag’ to Ferozepur paddlers.

Speaking on this occasion, Harish Monga introduced with the local members with special reference of Sohan Singh Sodhi who had paddled up to Bathinda, Talwandi Sabo, Muktsar, Amritsar and historical place Sultanpur Lodhi.

Akash Bassi who came in contact with the Ferozepur paddlers first said, there is a need to analyze the reasons, identify and isolate them and take corrective action in order to boast of a pollution free environment. The largest culprit is the automobiles that spew fumes and it looks to be a dream for the generations for pollution free environment.

Yuvraj Gupta, one of the team member said, the day is not far when the people will switch over to cycling locally to save fuel, time, money and environment.

Another member Ketan Jain said, the concept of ‘Cycle to Work’ is getting a momentum as while it keeps you physically fit and mentally stress-free, the paddling also add enjoyment while on a ride to country side and different places besides putting us wiser on having interaction with the people.

After having a round of the city via Udham Singh Chowk, the cyclists moved towards the Martyrs Memorial Hussainiwala where paid floral tributes to the martyrs and visited Zero Line besides having a photo session with the more than 6 feet height BSF jawans in full uniforms.

The real feeling of patriotism is evoked in us when we are able to experience the aura of the past in the forts, memorials and ruins of time gone by, shared Salil Gupta.

Jagdeep said, more people switch over to join the cycling, when we share our invigorating experience  with others.

Ferozepur Paddlers bid farewell after having participated in the ride over a stretch of 70 from Harike to Hussainiwala and late hours lunch with commitment to have cycle riding in each other’s city a regular feature.
