Chandigarh University launches nationwide career counseling campaign ‘Lakshya’

Ferozepur February 26, 2019: A nationwide career counseling campaign ‘Lakshya’ which is aimed to provide free of cost professional career counseling facility for the students, was launched by Dr.R.S.Bawa, Vice ChancellorChandigarh University during his visit to Ferozepur.

Addressing the media persons, Dr.R.S.Bawa said, “With changing times the industry expectations have changed a lot from the fresh talent joining them and as a result, the universities all over the world have to overhaul their academic model so that today’s youth is trained as per the expectations of the industry”.

While giving details about the facility he said, “the career guidance would be available to the students of Punjab throughout the year” Under the facility, any metric, 10+2 or graduate student from the state could visit the 4 regional offices set up at Bathinda, Ludhiana, and Amritsar. Students from Ferozepur can avail the free professional counseling facility by visiting the Chandigarh University campus in the vicinity of the city beautiful- Chandigarh or by surfing our online website www.fasttrack.cuchd.in .” The students would have to undergo a psychometric test based on which a comprehensive career advisory report that would help them in taking the most crucial decision of their life i.e. choosing a career, he added.

While announcing the scholarships for the students of Punjab the Vice-chancellor said, “Chandigarh University is offering 800 scholarships in various programs through its all India entrance examination CUSAT-2019 which is slated to be held in the month of April and May at various test centers across India. Under the CUSAT Scholarship policy, students would be offered scholarship up to 100% in more than 109 different professional programs offered by the university for the academic session 2019-20. The students can register online and can avail the benefits of the scholarship.” Special scholarships for the wards of Defense and Paramilitary Personnel was also announced offering them 5%  reserved seats along with 15% fee concession to the wards of disabled and martyr while 10% to working as well as retired persons. In yet another scholarship announced today during the press conference, Dr. Bawa said, “10% academic scholarship would be given to the wards of school teachers and university/college professors of Punjab state as a mark of respect for their contribution towards building strong future for the nation.”

The Vice-Chancellor revealed that more than 10,000 students from Punjab are currently studying in different professional programs at Chandigarh University out of which 1780 students got placements in Top-notch companies; the total number of offer letters received by these students is 2435. If we talk about the numbers from Ferozepur, then there are total 190 students from the city are studying in various programs in Varsity, and this year 122 passing out students got placed out of them 30 students successfully got 2 or more placement offers. While disclosing the achievements of students of Ferozepur during the year 2018, Dr. Bawa said, “A mechanical engineering student Jagmeet Singh of Ferozpur, got placed in companies like John Deere, Mu Sigma, Eveready, and Alexon. While another student Baljinder Kaur of Computer Science Engineering has been offered jobs by many well-known multi-national IT companies like Wipro, Cognizant, Tele Solution and IBM.” In addition to this, Dr. Bawa also shared that 22 students of Punjab had been successful in getting a placement at the entertainment-based world-renowned American company, Walt Disney.

While putting light over the achievements of students of Punjab in the field Innovation and entrepreneurship the Vice Chancellor of Chandigarh University informed that so far 16 start-ups have been launched by the students of Punjab, while proving their ability 32 patents out of total 230 filled by CU were done by Punjabi students, which includes start-ups especially in the field of health, pharmacological and medical fields. With the objective of making the women safe, "Female Safety Belt" has been developed by three students of Varsity’s BSc Computer Science department namely Javetsh Singh, Lalita Thakur, and Sushil Kumar.  Apart from this, for reducing the number of human labor required for the harvesting of the crop and minimizing the cost of machinery, the mechanical engineering students Dilpreet Singh, Naweej Sindhi, Urvish Agnihotri, Ranjan Kumar and Sahil Kumar made a multi-crop chopper machine, which can be used for cutting during agriculture, household garden and many other technical tasks.

The Vice Chancellor also informed the media persons about the all-around performance of all the CU students as he said that the varsity students managed well in clinching the overall trophy of AIUs North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival held at Punjab University, Chandigarh. In the same series, students won Runner-up Trophy of the All India National Inter-University Youth Festival. The contribution of the students of Punjab in these competitions was excellent. Describing the potential of students of Punjab in sports, Dr. Bawa shared that the sportspersons from the state have won 54 Medals in various national and International tournaments which includes kickboxing, cycling, powerlifting, boxing, etc.
