Cellphone, 2 SIM cards recovered from jail inmate

Ferozepur, August 4, 2018: Hardly there is any occasion when during the routine search operation, the mobile or drug are not recovered from the jail inmates in Central Jail.  The problem of smuggled devices in prisons occurs worldwide, but the mobile use by inmates can post significant dangers.

During the search operation on Wednesday, one mobile  – Samsung Duo with two SIM cards – has been recovered from a gangster jailed in Ferozepur Central Jail identified as Atul Kumar alias Aalu son of Ashok Kumar resident of Gali No.6 Ferozepur Cantt, as per the crime report released today.

The police have registered a case on the complaint of Manjit Singh Assistant Superintendent Central Jail under Section 52-A of Prisons Act and further investigation has been handed over to Raman Kumar, IO.

Despite the continuous recovery of mobiles, more than 100 in the past six months from the different barracks, from inside the jail, the jammers have not been installed in the jail. The security arrangements need to be tightened so that the inmate using the mobile is cut from the criminals to commit any crime in the society.

Sources said the jail officials were well aware of the presence of mobile phones in the jail.  The authorities tap phone calls of inmates to get important information.  However, the inmates have not started using WhatsApp calling, which is untraceable.

Sources further said in many cases, relatives provide mobile phones to the inmates during their hearing in court or smuggled in at the time of routine ‘mulaqat’ in the jail premises hidden in the eatables.
