“From Tea to Traffic: The Relentless Morning Marathon” by Dr Col GS Chowdhary
One likes to get up early in the morning like a million others, relax with a cuppa and take it easy. But soon reality sinks in, and one has to rush for work, how does one satisfy their earthly desires? Soon the drumbeats start getting louder, and you realise they’re just a few minutes away from office work time. That adrenaline rush, aided by the caffeine, lets you complete your morning routine, breakfast included, in a jiffy.
After that, as you take a bow to the master on the innocent machine that would fly you to the workplace, it turns into a lean, mean, metallic monster. The next problem is to reach your destination on an average 40 minutes away ,in the next 5 minutes! The compounding problem of a maze of vehicles, potholes on the so called road, a colourful Stop-Look-Go signals the destination appears to be in another world.
To calm your nerves spiritual songs versus rock-n-roll starts playing in the machine as you blankly stare at the 120 second red circle. Never have 2 minutes felt so long compared to when you were preparing Maggi in the kitchen.
Finally in the next several minutes you are going to reach the halfway mark of this daily journey. And just then you realize you are nearly 30 minutes late already , as you turn the music louder and notice the highway smooth like a runway ,barring a few measly metallic objects competing with you for the same intent ,just different destinations.
You revv up the engine and speed through those colourful red yellow and green signals one by one ,occasionally getting the finger or the occasional colourful abuses of passerby. It’s a miracle how one can reach office consistently late,sail through the traffic without a challan, police chase or knock out someone or anyone or anything enroute.
That alas my friend is the whole truth every Monday to Friday 9-5 for millions.Only just we haven’t discussed the return journey which fortunately is a bit calmer, as apparently you’re the boss at home, Or are you really !
