Ferozepur, July 9, 2024: Because of the anti-drug awareness and enforcement drive intensified in the district, the Ferozepur police have recovered a commercial quantity of heroin from the Zira area, with the arrest of three drug peddlers – two among them are mother-in-law and son-in-law.

Now the women have joined drug trafficking as the involvement of women in this trade may be beneficial for the business since they are less likely to be suspected of criminal activities.

Soumiya Mishra, SSP informed that to make the Ferozepur district drug-free and to curb the activities of anti-social elements and unscrupulous persons, the cops are working actively under the tutelage of gazetted officers (GOs) – SP((I), DSP(D) and DSP Zira.  The police were successful in cracking the drug supplies in the Zira with the arrest of three accused including one woman with recovered heroin and drug money.

SSP informed that in the drug-affected areas and hot spots, the police are conducting CASO operation and putting up nakas and during this exercise, commercial recovery of heroin 989 gm with Rs.7 lac drug money has been made with the arrest of three accused – Harpal Singh of Amritsar, Kuldeep Singh of Moga and Paramjeet Kaur of Zira. Paramjeet Kaur is the mother-in-law of Harpal Singh.

In reply to the question, SSP said, we are also working out the property of these accused and action to freeze the same will also be taken.

We have also started the Navekli Pehal with a special focus on women who are the main victims if the male member is addicted and teen girls and extending the invitation to join us to fight against drugs. Besides we are also working on the rehabilitation of drug addicts. During the last three years record, around 50 women have been involved in the drug trade.

SSP informed that during the last six months, 185 accused were arrested in 150 cases with the recovery of 35.588 kg heroin, 213.340 kg poppy husk, 10.761 kg opium, 1.400 kg ganja, 11,865 tablets/capsules, 68 gm intoxicant powder, Rs.47,41,020 drug money and 5 pistols, 5 magazines and 28 cartridges.
