5 mobiles, one adopter and 2 data cables recovered from Central Jail
Ferozepur, November 14, 2023: Recovery of mobiles and banned items from the jail campus, despite tight security arrangements at the entry points, continued to be a mystery. Around 500 mobiles have been recovered from the jail campus from the inmates and lying unclaimed, during the current year 2023.
The security of Central Jail has been compromised by the high-rising boundary walls at many places, from where racketeers are known to throw in tennis balls or packets stuffed with narcotics, mobile handsets, Sim cards and batteries, and other contraband material for inmates.
In the recent recovery, on a tip-off and search operation conducted by Sarbjit Singh, Assistant Superintendent, 5 mobiles, one adopter, and two data cables were recovered from the jail campus and two under-trial prisoners.
Divulging with the details, Gurmail Singh, IO said, on a tip-off, the search operation was conducted by ‘chakis’ in the jail campus, three mobiles, adopters, and two data cables were found lying unclaimed. Further, during the search of under-trial prisoners Sunil alias Nata one mobile and one mobile from Sukhwinder Singh were recovered.
The recovery has exposed that prisoners in the Ferozepur jail have been indulging in communication with the outside world using mobile phones, including smartphones. A case under Sections 52-A Prisons Act has been registered against the two under trial prisoners – Sunil alias Nata and Sukhwinder Singh – with the appointment of Gurmail Singh as IO and further investigations are on.
