190 children get relief from Child Welfare Committee under Juvenile Justice Act in Ferozepur

Ferozepur, January 23, 2024:  The Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Ferozepur during the last two and a half years has provided facilities to around 190 children under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, which include uniting of missing children, settling the issues at the school level or shifting the children found under crime activity to Nari Niketan or Ashram.

There are around 35 children with a single parent or their relatives who are facing chronic diseases, who have been provided Rs.4,000 per month as a scholarship for maintenance to continue with the studies under the JJ Act, which will continue till the age of 18 years, when they become major to stand on their own feet by doing some job.

Similarly, during 2.5 years, around 100 children have been united with their parents who had lost or were distanced for one or the other reasons or were involved in some criminal activity.  Besides, around 20 cases of students having disputes in the school were settled against whom the cases were registered because of beating by the teacher and later on, going under depression etc. and 35-40 children were reunited with children who are away from their parents for some reason.

Divulging with the details, Advocate Harish Dhingra, Chairperson of CWC said, the other members are Advocate JS Sodhi, Advocate Surinder Pal, Advocate Swarnjit Kaur and Advocate Harmanpreet Kaur.  He said the Committee is constituted after every three years with dedicated members which include one Chairperson and four advocates.  Any child below the age of 18 years can approach the Committee for relief under the provisions of the law, which has even the power as a Bench of Magistrates to take care of the children and take action by registration of a case.
