Ferozepur, March 29, 2022:  In a major crackdown, the Excise, Narcotic Cell cops, in a joint raid recovered huge quantity of ‘lahan’ and illicit liquor from Chakkar Wala Bera along the Sutlej River, under the supervision of AC(Excise) by EO, Excise Inspectors Inderpal Singh and Prabhjot Singh Virk.

Such illegal activities are being carried out mostly along the Sutlej villages situated far away from residential areas and there was easy availability of water as well. The villagers don’t have many sources of income and have no choice except to do illicit liquor business as a source of income.  In fact, Alcohol is a potent tool at the hands of the politicians to woo voters not only in the villages but also in the urban areas.  .  But, it continued to be a regular feature. Sometimes villagers are arrested but they are out on bail after some time and again start the extracting illicit liquor business.

Added here, ahead of recent polls, there was 4.65 lac ltr illicit liquor recovery from the riverine belt of Sutlej in Ferozepur in the same area.

Divulging with details, excise officials said,  during the raid 60,000 ltrs of ‘lahan’ and 100 bottles of illicit liquor along with the material – 30 tarpaulins, 8 silver utensils, 4 iron drums – were recovered.  The recovered quantity of liquor was destroyed on the spot at dry place, to avoid its misuse.  We will continue with such raids, in the villages along the Sutlej River,  to ensure that illicit liquor and take action as per the law.

Police authorities have been informed to proceed further in this recovery and in the meantime, a case has been registered and further investigations are on.
