Ferozepur, October 10, 2022: During the search operation, 13 mobiles have been recovered including two mobiles from gangster Manpreet Singh, interrogated in connection with the murder of singer-politician Sidhu Mosse Wala inside the Central Jail here.

The regular recovery of mobile phones from the Ferozepur jail has become a cause of concern as more than 450 mobiles have been seized over the past 20 months. In 2021, around 300 mobile phones were recovered.   There had been chances of throwing packets into the premises from outside containing mobiles, being surrounded by a thickly populated area and thus making easy access of mobile phones to inmates and the purpose of keeping the inmates away from the worldly affairs is also lost.

Earlier, the special investigation team (SIT) of the Mansa police probing the singer’s murder had brought Manna on production warrant after getting few strong leads in the case. Manna – who was in touch with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, an accused in the singer’s murder case, from inside the jail – is said to be a distant relative of Bhau, who had killed another gangster Kulveer Singh Baruana and his accomplice Chamkor Singh last year.

Nirmal Singh, Assistant Superintendent informed that the checking of bloc number and chakki number 1 was conducted on October 9 and during the search operation, while one mobiles was recovered from gangster prisoner under trial Manpreet Singh alias Manna of Oppo brand touch screen light blue colour with Airtel SIM card and another mobile was recovered by Gurtej Singh, Assistant Superintendent of Samsung brand with Airtel SIM Card. He tried to damage the mobile by throwing it into the wall but it was recovered in damaged condition. Later on, he also tried to injure himself by hitting his head in the grill and when Jogesh Jai, Dy. Superintendent along with his staff reached at the scene, they were threatened with dire consequences.

In all, 13 mobiles were recovered, two mobiles from gangster Manpreet alias Manna, one each from jail inmate Baljinder Singh, Gurpal Singh, Charan Singh, 7 mobiles of different brands as unclaimed.

All 5 prisoners under trial are already in the jail and have been booked under 52-A Prisons Act and Section 506 and 186 along with unidentified persons. However, police investigation is on to trace the source to facilitate mobile access to the jail inmates besides its further use, said police spokesperson.
