Standing wheat crop on 70 acres gutted in fire near Ferozepur
Ferozepur, April 12, 2017: The standing crop on nearly 40 acres of agricultural land was gutted in village Bhamba Landa falling in Block Ghall Khurd near Ferozepur on today around 12 noon. As many as 11 farmers lost their 100 per cent crop in an unexpected fire which incurred the huge financial losses.
According to the farmers of the adjoining village, the standing crop in village Bhamba Landa suddenly caught fire after a spark and they tried to douse the fire from spreading it further. By the time a fire tender reached the spot, crop over 70 acres was destroyed. However, the cause of the fire could not be known immediately.
The farmers affected were – Rajinder Singh son Naib Singh who said, his 17 acre crop has been destroyed in the fire incident, out of which 9 acres were take on contact. The other farmers involved were Babu Singh son Harbant Singh, Makhan Singh Boparai Ferozshah, Gurpreet Singh Ferozshah, Jasvir Singh, Lakhvir Singh, Rajpal Singh Ferozshah, Jagjit Singh, Jaswinder Singh and others.
The police party and concerned Tehsildar Lakhwinder Singh reached on the spot. They said, it is very unfortunate incident and a report to this effect, after girdawari and assessing the actual loss would be submitted to the authorities for compensation. Vatanpreet Singh Patwari and Avtar Singh Kanugo had started working in this regard.
In the meantime, the farmers of the area demanded for making arrangements of fire tenders at the block level at the time of harvesting of crop besides immediate release of compensation.
