SBS State University staff working without salary for 8 months, threatens to proceed on pen-down strike

Ferozepur, February 17, 2024:  As many as 250 staff members of Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University have been working without salary for 8 months and frustrated staff have threatened to proceed on pen-down strike from Feb 19, to register their protest with the government.

Meanwhile, on Friday the staff protested by holding a gate rally and cursed the government for not taking care of the teaching and non-teaching staff of SBS State University who have not been paid their wages for the last 8 months.

Dr Kulbhushan Agnihotri, General Secretary of the Engineering College Teaching Association further said, in the absence of salary, we were getting the household daily use goods on credit. But, now the shopkeepers have stopped giving them anything on credit, resulting in increasing problems in running the household affairs.

The other members of the Association Dr Rakesh Kumar, Staff Welfare Association President Gurpreet Singh and General Secretary Satinder Kumar said the staff has to face a lot of problems in the absence of non-release of wages regularly.  They further said we have approached the Technical Education Minister and Principal Secretary about the release of an enhanced grant from Rs.15 cr to Rs.30 cr but so far there has been no response.  Not only this, the government has also banned the annual increment of the staff.

Moreover, the University has been without any Vice Chancellor for the last three months. In such circumstances, we are left with no alternative except to register our protest by holding a pen-down strike.
