Resumption of train services to bring stagnant economy back on track - Virk

Ferozepur 28 November, 2020:  While the resumption of trains in Punjab is being welcomed by various sections, the Punjab Arthia Association has also lauded the move and this  will bring Punjab’s stagnant economy back on track.

Speaking on the occasion Sukhdev Singh Virk, General Secretary, Punjab Arthia Association, said that many works had come to a standstill due to closure of trains in recent times, first due to Coronavirus lockdown and then for more than two months on account farmers agitation over three Farm Bills.

He said that with the cessation of train services in Punjab, the economy of the state was also paralyzed and agriculture was also being adversely affected.

He said that the halt in the movement of goods vehicles had created a major crisis in the procurement of paddy and storage of new crop in the state.  Had this gone longer, this could have hurt the state’s economy and farmers.

He said, Due to non-operation of freight vehicles, the work of transportation wheat from the shellers was almost stopped where the bardana was not reaching.

Adding he said,  in Punjab, the bardana was coming from outside which was not coming due to stoppage of train services. Huge stocks have also piled up during this period as there was no movement of rakes.

Expressing his pleasures over the running of freight trains, Virk said, Adequate transportation of the crop to the deficit states instead of allowing it to rotten in the godowns due to its non-movement, agriculture is the only ray of hope for the Indian economy.

He said, the most affected class at the ground level was daily wage labour and with the recommencement of the same, will start getting the work, besides bring the life to normal as it used to be earlier before the lockdown.
