PPCB issued advisory for general public due to natural climatic disaster

Ferozepur, June 15, 2018: In view of lot of dust in the atmosphere due to winds flowing since last two days, from the Rajasthan and adjoining deserts thereby disturbing the Air Quality Index – AQI of the northern India, the Punjab Pollution Control Board has issued advisory for the general public, due to natural climatic disaster.

The AQI of Ludhiana, Amritsar, Mandi Gobindgarh, Khanna, Patiala, Roopnagar falling in the severe category of air quality.   In Ferozepur, the current QAI was reported as PM2.5 400 Severe and 50 per cent humidity.

The Board considered the matter in depth and considered it as a natural climatic disaster.  It has also been considered that this deterioration in air quality is affecting the human beings, animals and plants as a whole, the Board has decided to issue an advisory for the general public.

In the advisory communication, issued by PPCB, Patiala under No.PPCB/AirLab/288 of June 15, 2018, by Kahan Singh Pannu, Chairman, PPCB, Patiala, as here :

  1. the construction activities including carpeting of roads be stopped henceforth;
  2. the sand, the soil must not be carried in open trolleys/trucks for landfilling even for the highways and roads;
  3. the players, athletes, walkers and senior citizens should avoid exercises/walks during these days;
  4. the patients, particularly asthmatic, heart, eyes patients must remain inside;
  5. Parents are advised not to let their children play outside and rather they should be  involved in indoor activities;
  6. People are advised not to travel long distances in open trolleys/trucks.

The advisory further states that as per the Meteorological Department, the western disturbances are approaching northern India and rainfall in expected in a day or two to clear this dust, the people are advised to act as specified above till the weather is clear.
