Police seize 78,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ from border village in Ferozepur, 4 booked

Ferozepur, December 16, 2022:  The Ferozepur plolice claimed to have seized 78,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ from the border village Ali Ke in Ferozepur. Working on zero-tolerance policy and as a part of the crackdown on illicit/spurious liquor business  the raids are conducted from time to time.

In another three raids, 62 bottles – 8, 9 and 45 bottles of illegal liquor were also recovered from near octroi post number 7, villages Juwae Singh Wala and Habib Ke respectively.  Two persons namely Anant alias Buri and Jaspal Singh were arrested but later on released on bail.

As per the information, a team headed by Gurdev Singh, SI was available in village Ali Ke to keep an eye on the suspicious nature persons when a tip-off was received that some identified persons are in the habit of doing illegal business of brewing of illicit liquor and if raided can be nabbed with ‘lahan and liquor.

During the raid, 78,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ and 45 bottles of illicit liquor, was recovered from the village Ali Ke near Sutlej River and Sukha Singh, Kala Singh, Soma and Ranjit Singh of Gatti Rajo Ke and Ali Ke fled away from the scene.  A case under Sections 61/1/14 has been registered under Excise Act at Sadar Police Station.

The reason stated for why such illegal activities were being carried out mostly along the Sutlej, the police official said, villages are situated far away from residential areas and there was easy availability of water as well. The villagers don’t have many sources of income and have no choice except to do illicit liquor business as a source of income.
