Phone hacked? Back call to Uttrakhand developer SMS for power disconnection cost Rs.94,179

Ferozepur, September 26, 2023: Cyber fraud cases have significantly increased in the last few years.  With evolving technology and everything going digital, the internet has become a hotspot for thieves to steal money directly from bank accounts.  They trick people and get their OTP or sending phishing links to get access to their smartphones to steal sensitive data or transfer money from the banks linked with the mobile phone.

However, in a recent case of cheating in the bank account has been reported of transfer of amount hacking the mobile on getting a back call, when a SMS was dropped for disconnection of power connection.

Divulging with details, Raman Kumar, IO informed that Sukhdev Singh, 71-year-old, resident of Khalsa Diwan Malwal Road, Ferozepur, on getting a SMS on mobile that your power bill is to be updated otherwise the connection with disconnected.  On making a back call, the mobile was hacked and Rs.94179 were transferred from his bank account.

On scrutiny from the bank, it was found that the amount has been transferred in the account of Suraj Kumar son of Sunil Rana, resident of Gardeh Post Office Ghoranji, Deori plolice station, Distgtrict Girdeh, Jharkhand.

Meanwhile, a case under Section 420 has been registered at Ferozepur City police station and further investigations are on with Raman Kumar, IO with an advisory not to respond to unknown contact messages or click on the suspicious links.
