PCRA organizes ‘Cyclothon-Saksham-2018’ in Ferozepur to promote fuel conservation

Ferozepur, January 21, 2018: A cyclothon was organized today at Ferozepur as a part of ‘Saksham 2018’ – by Hindustan Petroleum – an initiative by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) and oil and gas sector PSUs, under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum of Natural Gas.

The cyclothon was flagged off by Shri Depakanar Sales Officer, HP Ferozepur. While speaking on the occasion before flagging off, Depankar stressed the need for cycling for better health, environment and fuel conservation.  He said, the fuel resources are likely to come down drastically in the coming three decades and we must use it judiciously and honestly.

He said, the aim behind this to create awareness among the people to adopt cycling at least for short-distance jobs locally.

A pledge was also administered on this occasion to create awareness among the people to ensure the better environment for the coming generations and to create Healthy India.

Around 60 participants of Ferozepur Bikers, officers from civil, railways and banking sector, school students, sports personalities and citizens from different walks of life took part in the event.  The cycle ride which began earlier in the morning at 7.30 am, was flagged off from Kaysons Auto fuels-HP, Ferozepur City and culminated back at the same place after covering the route of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium, Mahavir Chowk, Udham Singh Chowk, Circular road from Magazine Gate via Bagdadi Gate.

The star attraction was  Sohan Singh Sodhi – who has completed around 20,000 kms cycling including brevets of 200, 300, 600 and likely to participate in 1000 km in February, 2018.

Cheering up the cyclists, Sohan Singh Sodhi also emphasized the need to optimize fuel consumption. Traveling short distances on foot or cycling, carpooling, route planning, switching off the engine at red lights, switching to energy efficient equipment was a few simple tips, he urged people to adopt in their daily lives.

He said, daily Cycling even for about 30 minutes a day can keep one healthy, young and free from many ailments. It is an excellent inexpensive exercise to strengthen cardiovascular activity, increase brain power, reduce stress and shed body fat.

Vipan Kumar Sharma, Tehsildar a participant of Cyclothon and a regular cyclist in the city said, for a motorist, it is also an attractive financial proposition as this could result in a saving of up to Rs. 1000 per month on fuel bills.

The participants were also given wind-cheater and caps with Saksham logo followed by refreshment at the end.
